Trondheim municipality and Søbstad AS entered into a contract in September 2023 for a turnkey contract for Fredlybekken, where the original specified execution method for the No-dig works was controlled drilling. As a result of demanding, unforeseen ground conditions, the method was initially tried to change to pilot pipe drilling at the start of 2026. Despite extensive ground surveys and thorough technical assessments using the builder, turnkey contractor, sub-contractors, consultants and external experts in the field, none of the chosen methods have succeeded in establishing the wastewater pipe. To ensure that the pipeline installation is completed in accordance with the contract function requirements, it is necessary to change the execution method to micro tunnelling with a closed front for the remaining No-dig works for the establishment of the wastewater pipeline.
